Incoming 7th Grade Students – September 2021
Math: Summer Assignment (Moby Math Test Prep & Review)
All students are required to continue their study of Math over the summer by completing at least:
1½ hours of Moby Test Prep & Review in July and
1½ hours of Moby Test Prep & Review in August.
Please Note: Completing the entire 3 hours in either July or August does not fulfill this assignment as its purpose is to keep Math skills sharp over the summer.
Students should work in the Math Test Prep & Review tab practicing 6th grade math skills to be ready for 7th grade in the fall. If you are working on a topic that is unfamiliar or you have forgotten, remember you can look at the Moby tutorial by clicking on the camera icon in the upper left of your Moby Test Prep problem screen. Do any work required in your math practice notebook so you have a record of the problems completed as Mr. Miller may want to review your practice in September.
You can monitor practice time by looking in the Time Summary icon or your achievement in the Progress icon, both of which are in the home screen Balloons tab. To view the time spent in Math Test Prep, click on the right arrow in the Time Summary screen, scrolling until you see the Test Prep Math column. You can also practice outside of the Test Prep screen playing games or practicing in fact fluency, but keep in mind that these other areas do not count in the total time required.
If you have any questions, I do check my email periodically throughout the summer (lperona@sjvs.net). Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing everyone in September!

Incoming 5th Grade Students
Math: Summer Assignment
All students are required to continue their study of Math over the summer. Incoming 5th Graders will be doing this using a program called Moby Max. Students will be expected to work in this program and complete at least:
1 hour of Moby Max in July and
1 hour of Moby Max in August.
Please Note: Completing all 2 hours in either July or August does not fulfill this assignment as its purpose is to keep Math skills sharp over the summer.
While students have not used this particular program in the past, to make the transition as simple as possible, I have set up Moby accounts for each student using your child’s current Google Login & Password. Moby Max is usually accessible 24/7 from most devices that have Internet Access. I will meet with both classes for a short period before the school year comes to a close to go through some of the more basic features, but in the meantime, login information is attached to help you along.
Once in your Moby account, click on the Books Tab at the top of the main screen to choose your area of study. Please note that only 2 areas have been initialized for practice over the summer. In the 1st area “Test Prep” students will solve problems related to 4th-grade level concepts previously learned as a general review of needed skills for 5th grade. The 2nd area is “Fact Fluency” which is just as its name appears; solving basic math facts as quickly & accurately as possible. If your child struggles with basic math facts, this should be practiced daily to build up fact fluency as students are expected to know their multiplication facts to 12. Once the school year begins, your child will be exposed to and work in other areas within Moby Max.
You can monitor progress and time spent practicing skills by clicking on the Graph tab to the right of the Books Tab on the main screen. Select the Time Icon and then review the Date & Total Columns to view the number of minutes spent practicing math skills.
If you have any questions, I do check my email periodically throughout the summer (lperona@sjvs.net). Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing everyone in September!
