The fourth-grade curriculum that is being followed consists of grammar, writing, vocabulary, and literature. The writing styles that are being taught are opinion, personal narrative, informational writing, and fictional narrative. This is achieved through the use of the 6 traits of writing. Also incorporated into the curriculum is the use of novels such as I Survived The Joplin Tornado and Pun-ished. Through these novels writing skills, grammar skills, and comprehension. skills are addressed.
In the Math curriculum, the basics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) are covered along with concepts that will build on those skills. Also, other concepts that will be covered are fractions, geometry, and measurement.
In the social studies curriculum, the use of NJ Studies Weekly newspaper discusses New Jersey starting back to when it was New Netherland through the Revolutionary War and modern-day.
In the science curriculum, the use of Science Studies Weekly covers earth science such as weather, space, and earthquakes, and volcanoes. It also covers numerous concepts from physical and life sciences. Science experiments for each of these are accomplished through using flipgrid so the students can do these experiments virtually.
