There are no specific books on a reading list. A list of author and title recommendations is listed on the back of this page. Students are free to choose any book they wish to read; however; there are a few stipulations:
-You may choose one title for a specific author or title. (You may read one R.L Stine book or one book about sports.)
-Your choice should be age-appropriate yet challenging. It is strongly suggested that you try different types of books, such as science fiction, western, and mysteries.
In addition to reading two books, you must complete two book reports.

Language Arts - Mr. Thomas Cunningham (tcunningham@sjvs.net)
Dear Incoming 7th and 8th Graders,
This summer we would like you to read two age-appropriate books. In addition to that, we encourage you to read as many books as you want and to choose books you think you’ll enjoy. Each book must be about something different or by a different author or a different type of writing. So series books are an acceptable choice; however, you may only read one book in each series.

3. Author
4. Publisher (This should be a company, not a person’s name)
5. Copyright date
6. Type of book

Dear Incoming 7th and 8th Graders,
This summer we would like you to read two age-appropriate books. In addition to that, we encourage you to read as many books as you want and to choose books you think you’ll enjoy.

2018 Summer Reading Assignment Grades 7-8
Language Arts - Mr. Thomas Cunningham (tcunningham@sjvs.net)
Dear Incoming 7th and 8th Graders,
This summer we would like you to read three age-appropriate books. In addition to that, we encourage you to read as many books as you want and to choose books you think you’ll enjoy. Each book must be about something different or by a different author or a different type writing. So series books are an acceptable choice; however, you may only read one book in each series. There are no specific books on a reading list. A list of author and title recommendations is listed on the back of this page. Students are free to choose any book they wish to read; however; there are a few stipulations:
-You may choose one title for a specific author or title. (You may read one R.L Stine book or one book about wrestling.)
-Your choice should be age appropriate yet challenging. It is strongly suggested that you try different types of books, such as science fiction, western, and mysteries.
In addition to reading three books, you must complete three book reports.
The format for each book report is as follows:
PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING IN YOUR REPORT
1. Parent Signature – The signature assures your teacher that you have not already read the book and that you have completed the assignment. Please sign next to each title.
2. Title (underlined)
3. Author
4. Publisher (This should be a company, not a person’s name)
5. Copyright date
6. Type of book

Please remember that a paragraph is at least five sentences and not more than twelve. -Why did you choose to read this book?
-Write a brief statement that will convince your classmates to read this book.
-What did you like about this book?

-What qualities did you admire in the main character?
-How are you like the main character?
