"God's Loving Light Shines Through Us and Our Actions"
Kindergarten classes have a teacher and teacher’s assistant in the class each day.
The kindergarten instructional day begins at 8:00 a.m.
In the morning, kindergartners come in, sit down at their desks with their backpacks. There is something for them to do quietly while others unpack, and Homework Folders are given to the teacher. Homework Folders act as one main source of communication between teacher and parents each day.
Each day begins with Morning Activities. This includes a prayer, the flag salute, calendar work, counting, tallying, counting days of school using straws and place value pockets, weather recording, and singing a song for the month.
Children will have one “Special” subject each day of the week. Subjects include: Music, Physical Education, Computer, Art, Library, and Spanish.
Language Arts and Math are usually scheduled in the morning when children are more attentive and refreshed. The afternoon is spent on lighter subjects, and art activities.
The kindergarten classes have use of the Smartboard/Starboard which is a wonderful piece of technology that offers access to the internet for websites, videos, and games that enhance our curriculum and allow for interaction.
Physical activity is included throughout the day with the understanding that kindergarten children need to use big muscles and move.
Kindergartners have a morning bathroom break and snack in the classroom around 9:30 a.m. each day.
Girls’ and boys’ bathrooms are directly across hall from both kindergarten classrooms. Children may use the bathroom when needed.
Kindergarten lunch is at 10:45 a.m. each day. We have prayer before we eat.
Kindergartners bring lunch from home the month of September, then have the option of purchasing lunch starting in October.
Recess follows lunch for about 20 - 30 minutes.
There is an afternoon bathroom break around 12:30 p.m.
Free time is given to the children at the end of the day for about 30 minutes.
